Chairman Appointed to Highway Commission
Carl S. Rosenbaum, Chairman of the Board of Safe Foods Corporation, was recently appointed by Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee to the Arkansas Highway Commission. The Highway Commission, which operates as a constitutionally independent agency, is considered by many to be the state's most powerful commission, according to an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article on Mr. Rosenbaum's appointment. Mr. Rosenbaum will replace Commissioner Herby Branscum on the five-member commission. Branscum was appointed by then Gov. Bill Clinton. Mr. Rosenbaum's 10-year appointment will begin in January, 2001. In announcing the appointment, Gov. Huckabee introduced Mr. Rosenbaum as a man of "impeccable integrity." "This individual never flinched in the face of what was really some tough times," the Governor said. "He never flinched in his friendship, he never flinched in standing beside me." In brief remarks during the news conference to announce this appointment, Mr. Rosenbaum said he saw his role as a commissioner as one where he would "carefully assess the transportation needs of our state, determine where the greatest priorities lie and then use common sense to develop the most reasonable plan." |
